The indigenous Karankawa people, who for several centuries controlled a large stretch of the Texas Gulf Coast, have been much maligned in school textbooks. Many Texas students were taught that the Karankawa were cannibals, and that the tribe had gone extinct. Tim Seiter and Alex Perez will challenge myths about the Karankawas on Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Public Library. Admission to the program is free, and it will stream live on allentx.swagit.com. Seiter and Perez say the tribe is very much alive today.
