Father Francis "Joseph" Reisdorff is interred in a historic Catholic cemetery near the North Moreau River on the eastern edge of Stringtown. For several decades, his burial site remained unmarked, but has recently received renewed attention after it was discovered the priest established several Catholic parishes in Texas and inspired German festivals that continue to this day. His story began in Prussia on Oct. 4, 1840, when he was born the third of nine children of Peter Reisdorff and Theresia Angenendt.
