Did you know the world's largest bat colony lives in Texas? Every summer, more than 15 million Mexican free-tailed bats call Bracken Cave, located on the northern outskirts of San Antonio in Comal County, home. This also makes it one of the largest concentrations of mammals on Earth. On Thursday, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Bat Conservation International and Bracken Cave Preserve will host a live broadcast of the tornado of bats emerging from the cave at dusk as they go on their nightly hunt for insects.
